Associazione per la promozione degli studi di storia della Chiesa

«Sì, la memoria storica è veramente una “marcia in più” nella vita, perché senza memoria non c’è futuro. Una volta si diceva che la storia è maestra di vita! La cultura consumistica attuale tende invece ad appiattire l’uomo sul presente, a fargli perdere il senso del passato, della storia; ma così facendo lo priva anche della capacità di comprendere se stesso, di percepire i problemi, e di costruire il domani. Quindi, cari giovani e care giovani, voglio dirvi: il cristiano è uno che ha buona memoria, che ama la storia e cerca di conoscerla.» (Benedetto XVI, Discorso ai giovani, Cattedrale di Sulmona, 4 luglio 2010)
Queste parole del Papa ci hanno spinto a creare l'Associazione Magistra Vitae che si prefigge come scopo la promozione degli studi di storia della Chiesa, in stretto collegamento con la Pontificia Università della Santa Croce. A titolo esemplificativo, l'Associazione
- concede borse di studio annue per sacerdoti e laici, specialmente di nazioni meno ricche, che intendono specializzarsi in Storia della Chiesa;
- finanzia le pubblicazioni monografiche e/o periodiche del Dipartimento di Storia della Chiesa della Pontificia Università della Santa Croce;
- promuove i Master e i seminari permanenti del Dipartimento di Storia della Chiesa della Pontificia Università della Santa Croce in ambito internazionale;
- collabora all'instaurazione di relazioni tra il Dipartimento di Storia della Chiesa della Pontificia Università della Santa Croce ed altri enti scientifici e culturali, istituzioni pubbliche e private, sia in Italia che all’estero;
- sostiene le attività di studio e di ricerca attraverso la concessione di fondi per remunerare il personale di segreteria del Dipartimento di Storia della Chiesa della Pontificia Università della Santa Croce;
- svolge attività di raccolta fondi e finanziamenti per la realizzazione e il sostegno di queste iniziative.

«Yes, the historical memory is truly a “higher gear” in life, because without memory there is no future. Once it was said that history is life’s teacher! The current consumeristic culture tends rather to flatten man down into the present, to make him lose his sense of the past, of history; but in so doing he deprives him also of the capacity to understand himself, to perceive problems, and to construct tomorrow. Therefore, dear young men and women, I want to tell you: the Christian is one who has a good memory, who loves history, and seeks to know it.» (Benedict XVI, Discorso ai giovani, Cattedrale di Sulmona, 4 luglio 2010)
These words of the Pope inspired us to create the non-profit organization Magistra Vitae, which seeks as a goal the promotion of studies of Church history, in strict connection with the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. For example, the Association:
- Grants annual scholarships for priests and laity, especially those from less wealthy nations, who intend to specialize in Church History.
- Finances monographic and/or periodical publications of the Department of Church History of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross.
- Promotes the Masters Program and the permanent seminars of the Department in an international arena.
- Collaborates in the establishment of working relations between the Department of Church History of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and other scientific and cultural entities, public and private institutions: both in and outside of Italy.
- Sustains study and research activities through the provision of funds for the staff of the Department.
- Carries out fundraising and financing for the carrying out and support of these initiatives.
